Quayside & Bridges
Newcastle Quayside is a short drive away, where you can enjoy fantastic views of the Tyne, the famous bridges and new developments such as the Baltic Contemporary Arts Centre, Sage Centre and the uniquely-designed Millenium Bridge.

Centre For Life
The Centre for Life, a unique “science village” in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, fosters advancement in the life sciences. The Centre's aim is to provide 'a single, focused and dynamic regional initiative' to promote international research into genetics, to nurture spin-outs and small companies in bioscience, and to help people in the 21st century understand the role of our genes in health and disease. It achieves this through a range of partners whose activities in the village include research, technology transfer, health, education, entertainment, ethics and conferences.

Baltic Contemporary Arts Centre
BALTIC is a major new international centre for contemporary art, which opened in 2002. Situated on the South bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, BALTIC lies right at the heart of the regeneration of Gateshead Quays. Housed in a 1950s grain warehouse (part of the former Baltic Flour Mills), BALTIC is a site for the production, presentation and experience of contemporary art. With no permanent collection, a programme that places a heavy emphasis on commissions, invitations to artists and the work of artists-in-residence, BALTIC is a new breed of public art space, an Art Factory.

The Sage Gateshead
Currently entering the final stages of construction next to BALTIC on the Gateshead Quays, the Sage Gateshead will be an international home for music and musical discovery, with local roots, a world-wide reputation, a global programme and a fully inclusive welcome to all its users and to all musical styles and languages, opening in Winter 2004/5.

Laing Art Gallery
Situated just a short walk from the Monument and city centre, the Laing Gallery boasts an extremely broad range of exhibits and has recently undergone a major renovation. The famous 'Blue Carpet' is situated just outside the Gallery's front doors.

Hadrian's Wall
Hadrian Wall is the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain. It is the best known frontier in the entire Roman Empire and stands as a reminder of past glories of one of the world's greatest civilisations. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987, Hadrian's Wall ranks alongside the Taj Mahal and other treasures of the great wonders of the world.

Metro Centre / Eldon Square
The Gateshead MetroCentre is one of Europe's largest indoor shopping complexes, boasting hundreds of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants under one roof. There's even a multiplex cinema and with the New Metroland indoor amusement park, even the kids will love a day out here.

Eldon Square, right in the centre of Newcastle, offers a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafes, open 7 days a week.

Durham Cathedral
Standing in the centre of Durham City, the Cathedral has been a place of prayer and pilgrimage for over 900 years. It contains the remains of Cuthbert, the saintly seventh-century bishop of Lindisfarne; it also holds the tomb of Bede, the chronicler of Cuthbert's life and the first English historian. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in England (Bill Bryson called it 'the best Cathedral on planet earth'), and part of a World Heritage Site.

Newcastle Arena

The Metro Radio Arena is the largest concert and exhibition venue in the North East of England. The Arena´s commitment to the North East as a region is more than capable of supporting the very best in entertainment in this superb 40,000sq metre site.

St James' Park
Home of Premiership football club Newcastle United, and one of the largest and up to date stadiums in Europe, boasting a 52,000 crowd capacity and a host of corporate and banqueting facilities.

Angel of the North
Arguably one of the most prominent landmarks on Tyneside, the 208-tonne steel Antony Gormley sculpture stands overlooking the A1 at Gateshead. At least 90,000 motorists a day pass by the giant artwork.
